Architectural Wall Reliefs |

Artist Statement |
|
My mixed-media relief's are inspired by architectural remains of the Ancient Roman world. I interpret remnants of temples, villas, and scenographic walls in multi-surfaced structures. The compositions are derived from photographs taken while traveling throughout Rome, Pompeii, and Herculaneum. This new body of work is an outgrowth of my earlier mixed-media photographs. Surface textures once utilized are carried forward to the present constructions. I am now more concerned with the process of building a work of art which is physical in form and more visually tangible. Applications of wood, plaster, paint, ceramic, and found objects are combined in concert. The work embodies both the objective and the abstract. It transports the viewer to a rich and splendid time in history. |
